Star Wars never looked so good

A glimpse into the future?

Artists at Pillars of Eternity developer Obsidian have, in their spare time, made some quite stunning Star Wars environments.

Jason Lewis, senior environment artist at Obsidian, alongside other artists at the developer, have used Unreal 4 to make realistic real-time rendered Star Wars environments you can actually download and explore - if you have a powerful PC.

Lewis goes into some detail on the creation process over at 80 Level, where there are loads of cool images of the project. Here are a few of my favourite:

Here's the Millennium Falcon.

Here's an X-Wing.

Here's everyone's favourite droid, R2-D2.

And here's Mos Eisley on Tatooine.

The environments hint at what a future Star Wars game may look like, although to my eye DICE's Star Wars Battlefront already does a great job when it comes to graphics.

One for Star Wars Battlefront 2 on PC, PS4 Pro and Project Scorpio, perhaps?

As for Obsidian, well the developer has a history with Star Wars. It made Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2. I wouldn't mind a third game in that wonderful RPG series!
