State of Decay 2 has two million players

Players survive about three days on average.

State of Decay 2 looks like a success: it's got two million players.

Undead Labs' Xbox One and PC game hit the milestone less than two weeks after the game came out on 22nd May, publisher Microsoft announced.

You can play State of Decay 2 a number of ways, either by buying the game outright or via an Xbox Game Pass membership. It's an Xbox Play Anywhere game, too, so one digital purchase gets you both the Xbox One and the Windows 10 version of the game.

For context, Rare's Sea of Thieves saw more than two million players in a week of launch back in March. (Sea of Thieves remains Microsoft's fastest-selling first-party new IP of this generation and is the best-selling Microsoft Studios first-party title on Windows 10.)

Microsoft released a number of statistics around State of Decay 2 player activity, including that last week, players tended to survive about three days on average.

State of Decay 2 launched in a bit of a state, with our reviewer Edwin calling the Microsoft Studios game "technically shambolic" in our State of Decay 2 review. (Undead Labs recently released a huge 20GB patch in a bid to fix the game's glaring issues.)

"The entire team has been working hard to bring all two million players lots of key fixes, gameplay tune-ups, and quality of life improvements with our latest game patch released last Friday," Aaron Greenberg, General Manager, Xbox Games Marketing said in a post on Xbox Wire.

"We are always listening to our fans to improve the game experience, and we will continue to bring updates and additional content as you explore all that State of Decay 2 has to offer."
