Phoenix Wright gets hardcore in M-rated Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies

"Due to the nature of the various crimes and storylines."

The next game in the Phoenix Wright series, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies, is rated M for Mature by North America's rating board, the ESRB.

This will be a first for the series that's always been rated T for Teen. The franchise has often dabbled in mature subject matter with lots of murder and psychologically unnerving traumas, but this is the first time it's been deemed only suitable for the 17+ crowd.

A PEGI-rating has yet to be determined.

Does this mean we're in for a darker, edgier Phoenix this time around, or is America just being overly politically correct? I've asked Capcom for its view on the matter, but was met only with the cagey reply, "Due to the nature of the various crimes and storylines in this latest title in the series ESRB deemed the title an M."

Speculate all you want, but in the meantime enjoy these new clips showing off our favourite spikey-haired attorney's investigative prowess.
