More Kingdom Hearts coming
Nomura himself says so.
Square Enix legend Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that he's currently developing an idea for a new instalment in the Kingdom Hearts series.
In an interview with Famitsu, partially translated by GameSpot, Nomura said it was "difficult to explain" his concept for the game: "I'm thinking about how to talk about it [without giving things away], which means that there will be some twists to it.
"Up until now, the series followed along a [straight] time line, going from Kingdom Hearts to Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II. But the idea I have right now doesn't follow that flow," he said.
"However, as long as it inherits the Kingdom Hearts title, it needs to have some connection [to previous installments] in terms of storyline, so it won't be too distant from the other titles."
But in any case, Nomura went on, the game is still in the "conceptual phase" - so he hasn't quite made his mind up about what he's going to do just yet.
Nomura also said we can expect big announcements from Square Enix at this year's E3, and at the Tokyo Game Show in the autumn.
Kingdom Hearts II, which went on sale in the US last week, follows the adventures of Sora, Donald and Goofy as they search for the missing Riku. According to Nomura, there are a few differences between the US and Japanese versions - for example, in the American game, the enemies in the Pirates of the Caribbean world carry weapons which bear no resemblance to guns. That'll help.
A European release date for Kingdom Hearts II has yet to be announced, but we'll keep you posted.
