Mario Tennis gets October date in Japan

Nintendo confirms a few Japanese dates, and one of them is the highly anticipated Cube tennis title. New balls expected soon.

The long awaited GameCube version of Mario Tennis will be released in Japan this October according to Nintendo spokesperson Mitsuaki Hagishima, speaking in the Japanese Nintendo Dream magazine recently. More details on the game will apparently be revealed in the coming months.

Also due out on the Cube in October is Kururin Squash!, a collaboration between Nintendo and Eighting, which will presumably follow on from previous -stick-puzzle-style Kururin titles (which were ace, as we recall), while Mario Party 6 should follow in November. Bizarrely, the game will apparently not require the use of controllers, leading speculative types to point back to Nintendo's recent camera-related trademark filings. Some sort of EyeToy equivalent? We'll see.

As for December, Hagishima wouldn't be drawn on specific dates or the likelihood of certain releases, but indicated that it's possible we'll also see Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Star Fox 2 and Fire Emblem: Seima no Kouseki. Or at least the Japanese will. Finally, the Nintendo spokes-chap said that they may be other, as-yet unannounced titles joining the roster by the end of the year. We look forward to hearing about those...
