Sommat up with Summit Strike

Xbox Ghost Recon 2 pack issue.

Ubisoft has acknowledged an issue with US Xbox title Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike that freezes the game and presents an error message, and says it is looking into the problem.

The European/PAL version of the game is currently due for release on 26th August, but Ubisoft UK was unable to comment on the issue at the moment - so we're not sure what the situation is regarding that.

Frankly though, it seems a bit late in the day to re-master the game with patched code, particularly given that a fix has yet to be made available to North American Xbox owners.

The problem manifests itself "before, during, or after the intro movies, [when] the game freezes and a 'Red X' error message is displayed, which instructs the user to restart his/her Xbox," according to Ubisoft's official Ghost Recon website.

"It is important to note that the error does not affect every user, and that the Red X screen itself is a generic error message, much like the dirty disk error messages that other games use," the post continues.

According to the site, "For now, there are several relatively easy ways to resolve the freeze." These include making sure that the disc is clean and free from any scratches or blemishes; unplugging all game controllers while the introductory videos play through; or just trying to load the game repeatedly until it works. Once past the error, we're told, it's plain sailing.

We'd expect to hear more on this in the next few days, and we'll be seeing Ubisoft tomorrow so we'll be sure to ask about the problem in person.
