Mortal Kombat dev: We have a PSP2

Reckons it's "pretty powerful".

Third-party developers are already working with PSP2 units and, according to one, "it's a pretty powerful machine."

Shaun Himmerick, executive producer of the forthcoming Mortal Kombat reboot at Netherrealm, told IndustryGamers: "We have a PSP2 in the house and we're looking at the engine, like what can it support.

"Always a big thing for us is the performance. We're running at 60 fps, what can we do and do we have to build all the art assets over. We're definitely looking at them. PSP2 looks like it's a pretty powerful machine. We don't have a 3DS system in-house yet, but we're looking to get one, and we'll certainly look at what its power is."

Last month Eurogamer reported that the new PSP has touch-sensitive controls on its back and that Sony has introduced it to publishers, even going as far as showing first-party titles and discussing the business model.

Sony has kept quiet regarding a possible new handheld. Back in May, an industry insider let slip that it was like "an iPhone on steroids" while Digital Foundry reported it will use a super-powerful Quad Core PowerVR graphics chip.

"We haven't made any announcements regarding that," said a Sony spokesperson when we reached out for comment.
