The 3DS's Mario Kart will introduce hang gliders, underwater sections and vehicle customisation, and it's releasing towards the end of this year.

A trailer at Nintendo's E3 conference gave a more detailed look at the game, with several of the tracks seemingly prettied-up versions of those on Mario Kart DS.

Hang glider sections were also spotted with the karts sprouting wings as they took to the skies. The racing also went underwater at various times, with propellers appearing on the karts.

Kart construction and customization was another new feature debuting in the brief trailer, with karts seemingly constructed from three separate components.
