Konami confirms new Silent Hill game

Shattered Memories for Wii, PS2, PSP.

Konami has officially unveiled Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for Wii, PS2 and PSP. British studio Climax will develop and aims to release this autumn.

Shattered Memories re-imagines the first ever Silent Hill game. The story of father Henry Mason looking for his daughter remains the same, but there are extra clues, characters and paths to take this time.

More obvious enhancements such as Wiimote controls also feature. Here, the Wii controller acts as both torch and mobile phone. The former will help players through dark areas while the latter takes pictures, provides GPS maps and makes spooky static noises. The Wiimote can pick up and manipulates objects, too.

On top of that will be a psyche profile element that records players' actions and then subtly changes things to unsettle and confuse. Series creator and spooky music maker Akira Yamaoka has written a new soundtrack as well.

Climax will use a more traditional control system for PSP and PS2, but both will sport the improved gameplay elements.
