UPDATE: and here's what, exactly, it includes.

UPDATE: Square Enix has clarified exactly what Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue includes.

A spokesperson told Eurogamer the game has the following:

  • Kingdom Hearts HD Dream Drop Distance: A full HD remastered version of Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance].
  • Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep - A fragmentary passage - A completely new playable episode that links to the story of Kingdom Hearts 3, taking place after the storyline of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep played from the perspective of Aqua.
  • Kingdom Hearts χ [chi] Back Cover: A new HD movie that tells the mysterious story of the Foretellers.

So there you have it. That's what you get with Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.

ORIGINAL STORY: Good news and bad news. First, the bad news: we won't hear about Kingdom Hearts 3 until this winter, Square Enix said today.

Now, the good news: Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, the HD remastered collection of the Kingdom Hearts series, comes out this December globally on PlayStation 4.

The new gameplay trailer, below, shows off Aqua, one of the original Keyblade wielders, and her battle against the Heartless. The battle is featured in a new playable episode in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep - A fragmented passage - which is included in the HD compilation. The brand new storyline is a preview of the upcoming events of Kingdom Hearts 3, Square Enix added.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue also includes Kingdom Hearts χ [chi] Back Cover, a new tale "that sheds light on the mysterious foretellers", as well as new HD gameplay from Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance.

And! Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ is coming to mobile devices in Europe. This is the first game in the series to come to iOS and Android. It has story elements from the earliest parts of the series' history, as well as from Kingdom Hearts 3.
