Hardware: Shipbreakers, the eye-catching sci-fi RTS from some of the people behind the Homeworld series, is now an official Homeworld game.
Developer Blackbird Interactive signed a deal with Homeworld IP owner Gearbox Software that will see Hardware rebranded to Homeworld: Shipbreakers. As part of the deal Gearbox will pump resources into production.
Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford told Polygon: "Gearbox is not in the best spot to make a sci-fi RTS successor.
"We've become expert at production and that's where we can help. I mean, we shipped Duke Nukem Forever, we didn't build it but we made sure it came out. And that's a f***ing miracle."
Gearbox bought the Homeworld IP in April 2013 for $1.35 million after previous IP owner THQ went bust.
It plans to remaster both Homeworld 1 and 2.
