Activision has announced that Call of Duty 4 will ship to shops around the world on 5th November, which means we'll see it later that week on Friday, 9th November.

It follows news that tokens for the multiplayer beta will be sent out to US Live accounts next Monday, while those of us in other "select countries" will get in on the action in September. We'll keep our eyes on the Charlie Oscar Delta site for more news as it pops up.

COD4 is back in the hands of developer Infinity Ward and will take place on today's battlefields. It met with considerable acclaim at E3 in July for its use of a limited graphical pallet and liquid animation, proving there is considerable room for another game besides Battlefield, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six.

We've just packed our day bags and trekked off to go and see it at Games Convention 2007, and will be bringing you thoughts soon.

Meanwhile you can train your sights on all our coverage to date in our Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare gamepage.
