End of Nations to launch in 2012

Rift publisher's RTS on the way.

Free-to-play online strategy game End of Nations will launch sometime in 2012, publisher Trion Worlds has confirmed.

A live demo on stage at Eurogamer Expo 2011 showed off some of the unit skins and colours available to buy in the freemium game.

Purchasable items are limited to these optional aesthetic upgrades. "It is not a pay to win game," Trion community manager Lance James reassured.

End of Nations allows two teams of up to 26 players each to scrap simultaneously - that's 52 in total.

Meanwhile, a Risk-style metagame runs in the background, allowing two playable factions to battle it out across a persistent world map.

James couldn't divulge a more specific launch date when quizzed by Eurogamer, or launch details for the forthcoming beta.
