Doom 3 source code ready for release

Carmack: It's "packaged and tested".

Rage developer id Software has classic shooter Doom 3's source code ready for release, co-founder John Carmack has revealed.

The developer is now waiting on final clearance for the code, which will allow programmers to peek inside the seminal shooter's workings.

"Doom 3 source is packaged and tested, we are waiting on final lawyer clearance for release," Carmack wrote on Twitter last night.

At QuakeCon this year Carmack announced Doom 3's code would be released into the wild.

It's not the first time id Software has allowed access to its games in this way. Source code for several Wolfenstein titles has been made public, as well as code from the updated Doom Classic and Wolfenstein 3D Classic games available on iOS.
