Disney Infinity delayed to late August
Disney hopes kids will return to school with one of the toys in their bags.
Disney Infinity has been delayed to late August. It had been due out in June.
The toy/video game hybrid launches internationally on 20th August and in the US on 18th August, the New York Times reported.
The boss of Disney Interactive, John Pleasants, said the release date was pushed back at the request of retailers, who wanted the license to print money to release closer to Christmas.
It'll still come out before Activision's new Skylanders game, though. The two products are expected to go head-to-head in the battle for kids' hearts and minds later this year. Won't someone think of the parents?
"We think it's good to be first and really lean into the most important selling season of the year," Pleasants said.
Releasing in August means Pleasants hopes kids will return from the summer holiday with Disney Infinity toys in their school bags, thus encouraging trading.
"We could deliver in June if we wanted to," Pleasants said. "Will a two-month timing change help us? Sure, of course. It gives us a little more time to add bells and whistles and make sure it really sings and pops."
