Assassin's Creed Odyssey tombs and Ancient Steles explained

There are no Ancient Mechanisms like the ones you found in Assassin's Creed Origins, but just because there isn't a larger end game behind these tombs doesn't mean they're not worth completing. Other than levelling up your Hero to Level 50, tombs offer the only viable alternative to farming Ability Points for the Hunter, Warrior and Assassin skill paths.

Always have a torch ready before you go into a tomb. Even if it's day outside, every tomb will be a pit of darkness when you enter. Simply hold 'Right' on the D-Pad to equip it. There are also black braziers scattered throughout each tomb - you can light these by simply standing close to them, and they'll help you a) light the way and b) show where you've explored already.

Most tombs are relatively linear, but some have multiple points of entry and maze-like layouts. So be sure to use this braziers to keep you on track. We've also listed the right directions to take for each one, so you should be fine as long as you follow our walkthrough for each one. Some tombs may have the occasional soldier outside, but the only danger you'll encounter inside are spike pads and snakes.

These reptiles are designed to look like coils of rope, so be sure to dodge back and away if one coils in attack. Spike pads are pressure sensitive, but you'll have a few seconds to dodge away before they shoot upwards and damage your health.

Each tomb also has lots of chests to loot (which are randomised with weapons/gear relative to the enemies that populate the region you're currently in - so there's no scaling whatsoever), as well as corpses, bags and pots to loot for drachmae and crafting/sellable items.

There are no real puzzles to solve in these tombs, bar hidden gaps in the wall (usually blocked by smashable pots), breakable walls (depicted with lots of cracks/wooden planks) and wooden shelves that can be moved to reveal gaps or mantled to reach higher platforms.

Tomb of Alkathous location, solution and Ancient Stele

This tomb is located at the western edge of the Valley of King Lelex.

Head inside the doorway and turn left when you enter the circular room. Now smash the wooden spikes blocking the doorway on the far side of the room, then equip your torch.

Kill the snake at the end of the corridor, run through the doorway and keep going straight. Head down the stairs, then the next set, then turn left at the bottom. Keep going forwards and you'll reach the glittering tablet at the end of the corridor.

Tomb of the First Pythia location, solution and Ancient Stele

This tomb is located in the Grand Mount Parnassos region of Phokis.

It's located northeast of the Sanctuary of Delphi. The entrance is situated next to a statue surrounded by pilgrims. Head inside and you'll find a lit brazier, with two dead ends on either side. Follow the path to the other room and loot it for coins.

Now head back to the brazier intersection. You'll see a gap in the wall blocked by some furniture. Head to the opposite dead-end and smash the pots to reveal a gap you can access. Kill the snake inside, turn left and follow the stairs down to a large room.

Inside, to to your right, is a box with a box inside. The centre of this room is pressure sensitive and will impale you with spikes so watch out. There are also a couple of snakes in here. Smash the pots on the far side of the room to reveal another cap. Follow this into a room with a statue for a chest with some silver boots.

Head back to the spike room and exit through the doorway that's now to your right. Follow this path, watching out for snakes and grabbing coins. Turn left, then right and smash the hidden opening on the wall directly in front of you. Head through and kill the two snakes in the adjoining room before claiming the Ancient Stele.

Head back out of the room, turn right out of the doorway you smashed then move the furniture that was blocking the original gap to exit the tomb.

Mycenaean Tomb of Ajax location, solution and Ancient Stele

This tomb is located in the centre of the Isle of Salamis.

There will be four soldiers outside at level 20 each, so deal with them first before going inside. Smash the planks in the second room to reveal a doorway. Pull out a torch, then kill the snake inside. Now turn right.

Head down the stairs, turn left, then turn right. Note the spike floor pad to your right in front of a gap in the wall that's blocked by a wooden shelf on the other side. Turn left, head down the stairs and turn right. Now go down the next flight of stairs, turn right and head down the corridor.

Turn left before the fallen pillar and enter the chamber. Inside is a chest, but there's lots of snakes too so be careful. Now head back and jump over the pillar. Now turn right and enter the next big room. Ignore the gap in the wall to your left, it's just full of spikes, snakes and no loot. Take the one on your right instead and loot the chest.

Go back to the middle room and take the gap in the wall opposite where you first came in. Kill the snake, turn left, over the spike pad and rubble, over the pillar and up the stairs. Kill the snake, turn left and up the stairs. Turn right and the big spike pad, up the stairs, turn left and turn left again.

In the room with the massive hole in the floor, jump down and loot the chest and pots before using the stele to complete the tomb. Move the wooden shelves and beware of the spike pad on the other side of the gap before you leave.

Turn right, then left at the statue, then right again and through a doorway. In this wooden chamber, follow the path around to the right, open the chest then pull the wooden shelves to the right. Now head back around to the other side, pull the shelves here back, then to the left in the gap you just made. Now exit through the hole you've revealed in the wall.

Now turn right, then left at the statue, then through the doorway. In here are three snakes, a chest and the Ancient Stele. Move the wooden shelves to reveal a gap and a handy way out of the tomb.

Turn left at the end of the corridor, then kill the three snakes. Now turn right. There are lots of pots atop pressure pads. Destroy a path through the fast lot, then the second, jumping back and using arrows to deal with the snakes that hatch from the second cluster of pots. At the end, turn right after the big floor spikes pad.

Loot the chest and the pots, then destroy the wooden planks to reveal a chamber with the stele inside. Move the two wooden shelves to return to the original corridor. Watch out for the big spike pad as you leave.

In this room, you'll need to move the smaller wooden shelves around the room with all the spike pads. Keep changing which direction you're pushing/pulling from so you don't get caught before the animation can be cancelled. When it's at the far end, use the shelf to climb over the wooden spike wall.

Open the chest through the doorway, turn right and enter a room with a big hole in the floor. The stele is on the other side. There's some pots by a small gap in the wall.
