Zelda - Shee Vaneer, Shee Venath, and Twin Memories trial solution in Breath of the Wild

How to beat the Duelling Peaks challenges.

Shee Vaneer and Shee Venath are two of the many Shrines located throughout Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The challenge inside, named the Twin Memories trial, is a puzzle that has you memorise the positions of balls on the floor in each shrine, and recreate them in the other. Get it right, and you can walk out a success.

If you need help finding and solving other Shrines, our Shrine location maps page can help, while our Zelda: Breath of the Wild walkthrough and guide covers other aspects of the game.

Where to find Shee Vaneer and Shee Venath

The Shee Vaneer and Shee Venath shrines are located within the Dueling Peaks region, specifically with the Shee Vaneer Shrine at the very tip of the southern peak, and the Shee Venath shrine just down from the top of the northern peak, on a ledge in the south-facing side of cliff.

To get there, we recommend starting with the Shee Vaneer shrine, and climbing up via the south side of the mountain. Look for ledges as places to stop and catch your breath. Once you've been inside that shrine, paraglide down from that peak to the north, where you can see the Shee Venath shrine.

Aside from needing to get info from both of the shrines to solve each other, there's no puzzle to solve here in order to access the shrines themselves, so simply dive in when you're ready.

As we alluded to above, the solutions to these two shrines involve visiting and paying close attention to both. On entering either, you'll see a small plaque with the following hint:

"The shrines atop these peaks share a connection - their memory the answer to the other's question. Commit to memory before you start, lest, a failure, you will depart."

What does that mean? Well, each shrine is filled with a 5 x 5 grid of sockets, with a single ball in a socket in each row. You need to memorise the location of the balls in one shrine, and replicate them in the other - and vice versa - in order to solve the two puzzles.

First up, use the elevating platform to get a better view of the floor. The orders are, from left to right and top row to bottom, as you'd read a book:

  • Shee Vaneer Shrine - balls start at 2nd, 4th, 1st, 3rd, 5th positions.
  • Shee Venath Shrine - balls start at 5th, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 2nd positions.

Before jumping down off that platform though, stop for a second. You may have noticed on the way up that there's actually a small platform the other side of the elevator.

Once at the top, paraglide round to the other end of that platform, around the wall, to find a smaller ledge with a chest on it. There's one of these in each of the shrines, and they contain some valuable loot!

Now, simply rearrange the balls in each chamber to the positions of the balls in the opposite shrine, and you'll pass through. Remember we ordered them from left to right, one row at a time from farthest away to closest, as you'd look down at them from the platform.

While you're here, here are other Shrines within this region:
