Another Bethesda Portal map

Since Valve's still quiet.

Developing Fallout 3 might sound like a lot of hard work, but evidently it's not because all Bethesda Softworks seems to do these days is make new maps for Portal. Here comes another one.

The first one, Ren_Test2 by Bethesda's Daryl Brigner, got lots of attention in November, and this one, Ren_Test3, looks set to do the same because otherwise you're a bit limited in terms of what you can do with Portal once it's over. The download also includes Ren_Test1 and 2 in the same file.

Portal, of course, is one of the best bits of Valve's The Orange Box, with gameplay built around a gun that allows you to hop through one surface and exit another. We thought it was smashing, and for once the royal 'we' isn't unsuitable as it went on to be named our staff Game of the Year during the Christmas break.

Despite its popularity, however, the developer has so far resisted the urge to simply bombard us with new maps. Around a fortnight ago, Valve's VP of marketing Doug Lombardi told Eurogamer that there will be "more Portal, for sure", but added: "We just don't want to pump out a bunch of new puzzles and say...you know they're just new maps, it's the same s*** you did last time. That wouldn't be us."

Fair enough, but don't keep us waiting too long, eh?
