Wii storage is now "mainstream problem"

So says Reggie Fils-Aime.

Nintendo is "working to find a solution" to storage issues for people who use Virtual Console and WiiWare and acknowledges that it's not just the hardcore who run out of space.

"We have a consumer base who loves Virtual Console. We have a user-base who really is enjoying WiiWare content. So for us really our challenge really is how do we satisfy all these consumers who are loving all of the product we make available on a download basis?" NoA boss Reggie Fils-Aime told MTV Multiplayer.

Fils-Aime said that new additions were "just making this challenge tougher and tougher". "So in our view this is becoming much more of a mainstream problem, which is why we have a sense of urgency to solve it."

At the moment, Wii owners who run out of space on the console's internal flash drive can either delete content or shovel it onto an SD card.

There's 512MB of space to use up before you have to do that, and the console supports 2GB SD cards, but as larger WiiWare games are released and Nintendo continues to populate Virtual Console - currently home to over 200 titles in Europe - the problem is exacerbated for frequent spenders.
