Transistor dev lifts the lid on its new game plus mode

Will feature remixed enemies, new content and "thousands of different function combinations".

Transistor developer Supergiant Games has lifted the lid on its upcoming sci-fi action RPG's new game plus mode.

Entitled Recursion mode, this subsequent playthrough will allow you to retain your user level and all your abilities as you face off against remixed variations of enemies. Furthermore, "it'll be different just about every time you play," explained creative director Greg Kasavin on the PlayStation Blog. "This means you can really sink your teeth into the core gameplay."

"The Process, the enemy forces you'll be dealing with in Transistor, operate as a faction," Kasavin added. "The different varieties you'll encounter have complementary roles. As we experimented with fighting against them in different combinations, and in different locations throughout the game, we found a ton of interesting variety."

He also noted that the game's content itself will change the second time around, but he didn't say what that would entail as he doesn't want to ruin the surprise. "If you're familiar with Bastion's New Game Plus mode, we think Transistor's Recursion mode pushes some of those ideas even further," Kasavin teased.

"We're also very excited for the high level of play that's possible in this game, and all the thousands of different function combinations and viable playstyles players can use to get through it. We can't wait to see how it all translates with the PlayStation 4′s built-in content sharing and live streaming, and to see what folks have to say about what are all the best, most interesting function combinations."

For more information on Transistor, I previewed it last year where I was rather smitten with it at PAX East.

Transistor will be out on 20th May on PC and North American PS4s, while Europeon PSN users will receive it the following day. It will cost £14.99 / €18.99 / $19.99.
