The worst World War 2 history lessons games ever taught us

And more from Outside Xbox.

Hi Eurogamers! Welcome to your weekly dispatch from outsidexbox.com. It has been a war-themed week and, as Fallout has it, war never changes - except in video games, where it changes all the time. You probably think you know who won the Second World War, for example. Not so, according to Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Show of the Week ponders the game's vision of an alternate history in which the Nazis were victorious, and side-eyes the worst history lessons games taught us about the Second World War:

For a different kind of war game, we turn to Valiant Hearts: The Great War, a puzzle adventure powered by the same UbiArt Framework engine that gave us Child of Light. Where the objective in most war games is to kill as many enemy soldiers as possible, Valiant Hearts aims to show human stories behind the conflict, following four characters through the events of the First World War. See the 2D puzzling for yourself in gameplay below.

Our final war for this week is of the blockbuster action variety, beloved by the Call of Duty series. After what could reasonably be described as a lukewarm reception to Call of Duty: Ghosts from fans, Advanced Warfare hands the reins to Sledgehammer Games. That studio contributed to Modern Warfare 3, but Advanced Warfare will be the first game helmed by the studio. Can the game, with the help of Kevin Spacey's face, save the Call of Duty series? Does it need saving?
