Hisuian regional forms in Pokémon Legends: Arceus explained

Hisuian regional forms are the new type of variant Pokémon arriving in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Like previous regional Pokémon from the Galar and Alolan regions, Hisuian variants differ in both appearance and type from their original counterparts.

Currently, six Hisiaun regional forms have been announced - Hisuian Growlithe, Voltorb, Zorua, Zoroak and Braviary.

Hisuian Growlithe is a fire and rock-type Pokémon and is categorised as the Scout Pokémon. This new form takes inspiration from Chinese guardian lions, also called foo dogs, with its fur resembling part of the design commonly used on the statues.

Hisuian Growlithe are described as working together in pairs - another nod to the Chinese guardian lion inspiration - and, due to a lack of human contact, it takes time to earn their trust. Each Hisuian Growlithe also has a stone horn atop their head, which, since it breaks easily, they're very protective of.

Hisuian Growlithe debuted in the Pokémon Legends: Arecus trailer, revealed during the Pokémon Presents on Wednesday, 18th August 2021.

Hisuian Voltorb was revealed on Thursday, 9th December and, unlike the Gen 1 variant, is an electric and grass-type Pokémon.

Hisuian Voltorb, in keeping with its Poké Ball design, resembles the wooden Poké Balls used in the Hisui region during the era Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set. It even has a little hole in its head from which it sprouts seeds!

While these Pokémon are friendly towards humans, they can also be quite the nuisance thanks to their habit of discharging the electricity stored within their bodies. This has led to the habit of people blocking the hole in their head and then rolling the Hisuain Voltorb out of their settlement.

Hisuian Zorua and Zoroak were teased on Monday, 19th October through the medium of found VHS footage of an explorer venturing through a snowy landscape. At the end of the footage, you could hear the explorer describing a new Pokémon they had discovered, but the quality of the footage had degraded to such a degree that we couldn't tell which Pokémon it was.

A restored version of the footage was released three days later and, at the end of the video, you can clearly see Hisuian Zorua and Zoroak.

Hisuian Zorua originate from Zorua who migrated to the Hisui region after being driven out from their home, but, unable to survive the colder climate, they all died and their remaining soul became ghost-type Pokémon. They gather strength by disguising themselves as exact copies of any human or Pokémon they encounter and feeding upon the subject's terror.

These illusions grow more powerful when the Hisuian Zorua evolve into a Zoroak, with this Pokémon expressing the hatred and malice they have towards the world through them. Zoroak are, however, very protective over any Hisuian Zorua and can, with much work, find trust in a human. If it doesn't drive you mad first.

Hisuian Braviary is a psychic and flying-type Pokémon, which evolves from Rufflet, and is categorised as the Battle Cry Pokémon.

When winter falls, this Pokémon flies to the far north and it's psychic powers manifest through powerful shock waves. It's also believed that it can use this psychic power to unlock a sixth sense and, by doing so, enter trances to empower it's physical abilities.

Throughout Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you'll be able to use Hisuian Braviary to soar across the Hisui region. From this vantage point, you might even spot new Pokémon and items during your surveys.

Hisuian Braviary debuted in the Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer released during the Pokémon Presents on Wednesday, 18th August 2021.

New Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus explained

Currently, we know of three new Pokémon which will be making their debut in Pokémon Legends: Arceus - Wyrdeer, Basculegion and Kleavor.

Wyrdeer evolved from Stantler in the Hisui region and is a normal and psychic-type Pokémon classified as the Big Horn Pokémon. It uses the black orbs of its antlers to generate psychic energy so powerful it can actually distort space. These antlers also allow it to search for safe areas, so it can guide a herd of Stantler.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you'll be able to ride Wyrdeer across the Hisui region and, by dashing forward, you'll be able to jump over a number of obstacles.

Wyrdeer was first revealed during the trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus which debuted during the Pokémon Presents on Wednesday, 18th August 2021.

Basculegion is the evolved form of Basculin found in the Hisui region. Tales say that Basculegion is possessed by the souls of all the Basculin who die during the journey upstream, which is in keeping with its water and ghost-typing.

These souls also grant Basculegion the ability to swim continuously without ever tiring, almost as if they hope to finally complete their journey through this new body.

By riding a Basculegion in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you'll be able to explore the waterways which exist in and around the Hisui region. This Pokémon can even jump over obstacles that may stand in your way.

Basculegion was originally revealed during the Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer, which debuted on Wednesday 18th August 2021 during the Pokémon Presents.

Kleavor is a bug and rock-type Pokémon and is what happens to Scyther's in the Hisui region when they come into contact with certain minerals.

This Pokémon is known for its powerful axe-blade arms, which it can use to chop down trees or defeat any opponent which dares cross its path. Parts of Kleavor's stone body may fall off as it fights, but this only serves to make the Pokémon even stronger.

Kleavor was revealed during the Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer released on Tuesday, 28th September 2021.

We also got our first look at Noble Pokémon during this trailer, with Kleavor being the one spotlighted. While we don't know much about Noble Pokémon at the moment, we do know that something is causing them to become frenzied.

During this state, their bodies shine brightly and they attack without mercy. The only way to defeat them is to attach balms made of their favourite foods to their body.
