Pokémon fighting game Pokkén Tournament announced

UPDATE: Gameplay footage now released in HD.

UPDATE 26/6/14 2.35pm: A high quality version of the game's announcement trailer has now been posted. Watch it below:

ORIGINAL STORY 26/6/14 2.15pm: The Pokémon Company has announced Pokkén Tournament, a 3D Tekken-style fighting game for Japanese arcades.

The title is being developed at Bandai Namco under the stoic gaze of Tekken boss Katsuhiro Harada.

Bandai Namco is already working with Nintendo on the forthcoming 3DS and Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros.

It's not the first we've heard of Pokkén Tournament - a brief clip of the game was shown earlier this year, titled Pokkén Fighters.

New gameplay glimpsed today featured 3D versions of Lucario and Machoke squaring off against a lush, green background.

So far there's no word on a launch for Wii U - or a version which might reach these shores.

We've contacted Nintendo UK for more information on a launch here in Europe.
