Activision has announced details of the next game in its long-running skateboarding series, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. The title will be released on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii and DS in autumn this year.

Stalwart Tony Hawk's developer Neversoft is concentrating on improving customisation, online and community features this time around. There will be a video editor, featuring editing tools and effects for creating your own skate videos. Seamless integration of online and single-player modes is also promised, along with a customisable online Skate Lounge for hanging out on the internet.

It looks like you'll have greater scope for sculpting skate parks too, with Activision saying you will be able to alter and build terrain, as well as indulge in the arcane practice of Bowl Carving.

Nail the Trick, the slow-mo trick manipulation mode of last year's Project 8, returns in expanded form. Nail the Grab and Nail the Manual moves are set to be added.

Neversoft president Joel Jewett is promising "the largest, deepest and most compelling Tony Hawk game ever". Well, he would, wouldn't he?
