Suda makes Contact with DS

Killer 7 director's new project.

It's been revealed that Gouichi Suda - director of Capcom's Killer 7 - is currently working on a new RPG for the Nintendo DS, titled Contact.

It's somewhat lighter in tone than his schizophrenic shooter, and stars a boy called Cherry. The game begins when a professor crashlands on a planet similar to Earth, and realises that all the components for his power source have become scattered all over the place. He asks for Cherry's help to find them - only Cherry then mysteriously disappears.

So the professor asks you to help him and Cherry make contact, do you see. The professor issues instructions from the top screen, while you move Cherry around on the touch screen using the stylus.

Cherry has power-ups in the form of special stickers which can be used to different effect, and he can also collect costumes. His abilities will vary depending on which outfit he's wearing, and the range includes chef, pilot, fisherman and firefighter.

Naturally there are lots of baddies to defeat along the way, including an evil terrorist called Mint who's after nicking the professor's power source.

Contact is being produced by Suda and directed by Akira Ueda, who's previously worked on Sega's Shining Soul series. The game is in development at Grasshopper Studios and will be published in Japan by Marvelous Interactive next February.
