Midway scoops Ant Bully licence

Game of the CG movie planned.

The Ant Bully is to get the videogame treatment next year, after Midway announced yesterday that it has signed a deal with Warner Bros. to develop titles based on the forthcoming CG animated movie.

Directed by John A. Davies (of Jimmy Neutron 'fame'), the movie centres upon the exploits of a young boy called Lucas Nickle, who floods an ant colony with his watergun and is magically shrunken down to insect size and sentenced to hard labour in the ruins. That'll teach him; as Adam Ant once sang: "Don't tread on an ant, you'll end up black and blue, you cut off his head, legs come looking for you..."

The voice cast has already been confirmed, with the usual galaxy of stars on board including Nicolas Cage, Alan Cumming, Zach Tyler Eisen, Paul Giamatti, Myles Jeffrey, Regina King, Cheri Oteri, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Jake Szymanski, and Lily Tomlin.

Naturally, Midway president and CEO David F. Zucker was "very pleased" to do the deal with Warners, and added that Midway was "looking forward to publishing great games based on this exciting film property for a younger audience of players."

The Ant Bully is set for release at some point in 2006, with multiple console platforms likely. Now unplug the jukebox, and do us all a favour-oh-woah...
