New Mass Effect 2 DLC announced

Plus: Cerberus Daily News to stop.

There's another lump of downloadable content coming to Mass Effect 2, BioWare has announced.

However, the Cerberus Daily News posts - those fictional bulletins found opposite the Mass Effect 2 main menu - will hereby cease.

"The Cerberus Daily News will begin a hiatus on January 24th, finishing its run of one full year," the CDN announced on New Year's Day (caught by NeoGAF)

"Daily postings will cease except for three weeks in 2011: a week of posts will precede a downloadable content release, and two more weeks will lead up to the release of Mass Effect 3.

"The CDN team thanks fans for their attention, comments, and feedback (both in and out of character!). We are sorry to go, but we had fun - we hope you did, too."

What a shame: I was so enjoying today's bulletin about an outbreak of mould that is causing hallucinations on some obscure colony planet.

Incidentally, that "downloadable content release" wasn't detailed further. Will it coincide with the release of Mass Effect 2 for PS3 on 21st January?

After a handful of drab DLC packs for Mass Effect 2, BioWare finally hit its stride with Lair of the Shadow Broker, released in September 2010. This fleshes out the story with Mass Effect 1 squad member Liara T'Soni. What did Eurogamer think? "It all adds up to a downloadable package that stuffs in an awful lot of content, while maintaining the pace and rhythms of a lean blockbuster movie."

The excellent Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC.
