Namco Bandai officially unveils Enslaved
Post-apocalyptic action from Ninja Theory.
Namco Bandai has officially announced Ninja Theory's upcoming post-apocalyptic third-person action game Enslaved, which is due out in 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360.
The details match up with those from earlier in the month: you play as Monkey, a "brutish loner" who is bound in life and death to Trip, a Nariko-from-Heavenly-Sword lookalike who modified the duo's slave headbands so that if one of them cops it so does the other one.
It's more than 150 years in the future, and Monkey and Trip are on a slave ship to unknown shores, but they evidently escape and start across post-apocalyptic America fighting straggling humans and "merciless robots left over from wars long past".
The first screenshots show the spiky-haired Monkey (evidently they found some hair gel left over from salons long past) mashing things up in a crumbling city partly reclaimed by rust and moss.
Monkey has a staff weapon with which he can dispense a bunch of melee attacks, blocks and counters, and apparently he can also perform takedowns that allow him to rip enemies limb from limb and turn their own weapons against them in finale. Are you not entertained?
As previously revealed, it's all based on a script co-written by Alex Garland (The Beach, 28 Days Later, that Halo film they never made), who also worked on in-game dialogue, while Gollum from Lord of the Rings will portray lead character Monkey and has worked closely on character and script development, casting and direction.
There's also a score by Nitin Sawhney, who also worked on Heavenly Sword and lots of other stuff.
We'll bring you more on Enslaved soon, hopefully.
