Modern Warfare 3 to permit Party Chat

Only Search & Destroy still exempt.

Unlike its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will support Party Chat for the majority of its multiplayer modes, developer Infinity Ward has confirmed.

Creative strategist Robert Bowling told MTV that the studio was aiming to make the third entry in the series more accessible, in doing so loosening its hardcore attitude to Party Chat.

"A major focus of 'Modern Warfare 3' multiplayer is allowing you to have a lot more control over [how you play], looking at those restrictions and doing away with stuff like [Party Chat blocking] that's super hardcore," he explained.

Bowling suggested that there will still be an option for those who would prefer not to play with Party Chatters.

"It's about giving options. We will have places where competitive guys go where you might have restrictive voice chat. And then you have an option to maybe play that same mode without the same restrictions if that's the type of player you are."

Although it seems that the majority of Modern Warfare 3's modes will allow Party Chat, Bowling added that the game's Search & Destroy mode will likely still block the feature.

Party Chat was disabled in Modern Warfare 2 to encourage teamwork among users and combat cheating.
