Media Molecule "at work on a sequel"

So says BBC reporter covering LBP.

Media Molecule is already developing a sequel to LittleBigPlanet, according to a report from BBC technology editor Darren Waters.

In a report published on Friday (thanks vg247), Waters wrote, "Even before the game has hit the shops, the team are already at work on a sequel."

Sadly there's no corroborative commentary from anyone at Media Molecule in the report, and Sony has yet to respond to requests for comment.

Mind you, we can probably guess what the answer is: this is a complex, community-driven game ripe for expansion through PlayStation Network and, eventually, on other Blu-ray discs, so it's hardly surprising that development is ongoing. Or, alternatively, "no comment".

Elsewhere in the BBC report, which focuses on the success of Media Molecule and fellow Guildford-based studio Lionhead, Peter Molyneux paid tribute to Alex Evans, Mark Healey, Dave Smith and Kareem Ettourney and their collective achievement at Media Molecule, having originally worked for Molyneux at Lionhead.

"I feel so proud of what they have done, which is phenomenal," Molyneux told the BBC. "They have started a company from scratch with one of the most amazing and creative ideas that this industry has ever seen and come out with a huge success."

Premature? Judging by the amazing public and critical response to LittleBigPlanet (including our own glowing, 9/10 review), probably not, but we shall only see for sure when the game goes on general sale next month following the recent recall blip. UK punters should be able to pick it up on 5th November.
