LG ends Windows Phone production, focuses on Android

WP7 handsets total is "not meaningful figure".

Korean electronics firm LG has announced it will no longer produce Windows Phone handsets.

Future smartphone launches will now solely be Android-based, the company told Korea Herald (via WPCentral).

"The total unit of Windows Phone sold in the global market is not a meaningful figure," a company spokesman explained.

LG spending on Windows Phone devices has now been reduced to "research and development efforts" only.

The company suffered losses for seven straight quarters since its 2009 announcement that it would focus on Windows Phone support, only recently turning a profit.

LG's exit leaves Nokia, HTC and Samsung as the remaining three major companies developing Windows Phone devices.
