Konami tries to explain the R in Super Bomberman R

Letter decide quickly.

Classic arcade series Bomberman is set to return on Nintendo Switch in a new installment named Super Bomberman R. But what does that R stand for?

Even developer Konami seems a little unsure.

Responding to fans on the official Bomberman Reddit, a Konami spokesperson gave not one, not two, but three possible suggestions for the R's meaning.

"R is a throw back feel for the devs to when games could simply have a letter and allow that letter to carry many meanings," the KonamiUSSocial account wrote.

"It symbolised Returns and Reborn because this game is such a homage to SNES and SB3. But it also means Rangers, to represent the diverse and colorful group of Bomberman characters who patrol the galaxy."

Bomberman was originally created by Hudson, which was gobbled up by Konami back in 2012.
