HMV to open new gaming centres

Will host tournaments, demo pods etc.

UK retailer HMV has announced plans to launch a series of new gaming centres in shops across the country.

They've just acquired specialist multiplayer gaming outfit Gamerbase, you see. There's already a Gamerbase centre in HMV's Trocadero store in Piccadilly, where you can try out new games, take part in tournaments and of course buy things.

"Where we roll them out, we’ll be looking to locate the Gamerbase centres next to our games departments to bring the whole offer together for our customers - so if someone’s enjoyed playing a game online, they can pre-order or purchase it there and then," said executive shopkeeper Tim Ellis.

The first Gamerbase outside of London will be situated in Manchester. It will feature 50 game pods spread over 2000 square feet of space, and should be open before Christmas.
