Halo: The Master Chief Collection's massive day one update shrinks to 15GB

Available to download now.

There's good news on Halo: The Master Chief Collection's gargantuan day one download.

Probably best to get this going as soon as possible.

First off, it's smaller than expected. Developer 343 had said it would be 20GB, but it's now 15GB, we've verified. Still huge, mind, but a little less huge.

And it's available to download now, if you've pre-ordered the game digitally. So if you've enabled auto-download you can get the update going ahead of the Xbox One's release on 11th November.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection's day one download adds the multiplayer portion of the game.

"From the start, our philosophy has been to give Halo fans the best possible experience and not compromise the quality or features of the collection," executive producer Dan Ayoub said last month.

"The result is that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will take up almost all of the usable space of a single Blu-ray (45GB), and we will also issue a content update at launch that is estimated to be 20GB."

Each of the campaigns will be playable while you're downloading the day one patch, 343 has said.

"You'll be able to start playing Campaign and more as the content is installing, with some features and multiplayer content being added via the update. Yes, the update is large, but we weren't about to cut corners to save disc space," said Ayoub.

"This ensures that you are getting every bit of Halo goodness we can fit in. Our work is not done, however, as we continue to tune, tweak and optimise the online experience to ensure a smooth multiplayer launch. This will continue right up until launch day."

This seems like a good time to highlight the Halo: The Master Chief launch trailer, below.
