Fifth of developers working on PS4 game, survey finds

Compared to just 4% of devs for Wii U.

20 per cent of all developers polled at last year's Game Developers Conference were working on a game for PlayStation 4, a newly-released survey has revealed.

That's the highest amount for any home console, GamesIndustry International said, and compares with 17 per cent for Xbox One.

Just 4 per cent of those polled said they were working on a game for Wii U, down from 6.4 per cent the year before - a decrease no doubt spurred by continued poor sales of Nintendo's home console.

The number of companies working on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 held fairly steady - 14 per cent are still developing on Sony's platform, while 12 per cent are working on Xbox 360.

Around half of all developers said that their next game would launch on smartphone or tablet, while 52 per cent said they were working on PC or Mac.

There was also a slight bump in the amount of game developers using crowdsourcing platforms such as Kickstarter for funding - the number rose to 11 per cent, up from 8 per cent previously.
