EA extends FIFA licensing agreement until happily ever after

Well, 2022, where there be spaceships and lasers.

Sometimes things just don't work out and it's better for both parties if they call it day, which is why EA and FIFA have extended their outrageously successful football licence until the end of time, or 2022, whichever comes sooner.

The partnership began in 1993, and 20 years later is "very strong", understated EA Sports' Andrew Wilson. The annual FIFA games are even making headway in the US these days. They're a global best-seller almost as powerful as Call of Duty.

The licensing deal nets EA exclusive dibs to FIFA events such as the World Cup and the FIFA Interactive Cup.

"Our relationship with EA Sports is of high importance to FIFA," said Jérôme Valcke, Secretary General of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

"The FIFA video games are a key experiential component in our work to communicate the FIFA brand and its values all over the world. This is highlighted by the 2.5 million football fans that have competed in this year's FIFA Interactive World Cup, which is just one example of the power of our partnership with EA."

What EA intends to do with the licence no one can know.
