Cyberpunk 2077 gets new game director

Silver handover.

Cyberpunk 2077 has a new game director - and it's former creative director Gabriel Amatangelo.

Amatangelo joined CD Projekt back in January 2020, and will now take over from former game director Adam Badowski. According to a report by GamesIndustry.biz, Badowski will now focus on other leadership duties within CD Projekt, including the company's new "strategic development framework" that will see the Cyberpunk and Witcher brands developed in parallel.

Before becoming a creative director for Cyberpunk 2077, Amatangelo also worked as a design director on Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC, and lead designer on several expansions for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Cyberpunk 2077's roadmap indicates that we should see several free DLCs for the game over the next year, and Amatangelo certainly has some experience in this area.

Former quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz has also announced his departure from CD Projekt, explaining on Twitter that after 12 years of work at CD Projekt Red it's "time for change".

As for when Cyberpunk 2077 will be allowed to return to the PlayStation Store, well, there's not really a whole lot of news. Earlier this week joint CEO Adam Kicinski told investors that he had "no new information in this regard", adding that the company is "still in discussions and with every patch the game gets better and there is a visible progress.

"...But as we said the decision is an exclusive decision of Sony, so we are waiting for the information about the fact that they took the decision to bring back this game. Until then I am not able to tell you anything more" (via VGC).

The game has already seen several patches to improve its performance on base last-gen consoles, but it seems there's still work to be done to get the game running properly. Digital Foundry analysed April's big 1.2 patch and concluded that while it improved performance on PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and the other base consoles "still aren't good enough".
