Crysis 2's DirectX 11 patch in doubt

UPDATE: EA issues statement.

UPDATE: EA has issued Eurogamer with a statement on the matter, adding further confusion to the status of DirectX 11 support for Crysis 2.

"We have not made any official announcements about a patch yet," an EA spokesperson said.

ORIGINAL STORY: Crytek has poured cold water on a report that a DirectX 11 patch for excellent sci-fi first-person shooter Crysis 2 was in the works – but stopped short of denying its existence.

On Sunday website Maximum PC reported on a German report (yes, we know) that claimed DirectX 11 support would be patched in to the PC version of Crysis 2 on Monday.

It would also add a new "Advanced Graphics menu" for those who like to tweak the special effects for maximum performance.

This, obviously, didn't happen – a fact that didn't go unnoticed on the official Crysis forum, MyCrysis.

It was at that point that Crytek community manager "Cry-Tom" stepped in.

"No patch was ever confirmed, I have no idea why this website even posted such information" he wrote.

"This thread is locked just the same as the others for trying to spread inaccurate information. When there are any big announcements regarding Crysis 2 they will be posted on MyCrysis, if you read something about a patch for example, but don't see it on MyCrysis.com, then it isn't genuine."

The PC version of Crysis 2, predictably, looks better than its console cousins. But some PC gamers have complained that the game does not support advanced graphics settings, preventing them from pushing the game hard.

Eurogamer has asked Crytek for comment.
