Things had blown cold on the project until interim Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick mentioned a 2011 release date during a BMO Capital Markets conference watched by Joystiq. Zelnick went on to say we'd see the game "relatively soon".

Creator Sid Meier told the world he was playing a prototype version of the game in March this year. However, his preferred way of working this time is painstaking iteration to make sure his giant social Civilization dream is "refined" and balanced.
