Fortnite is celebrating its first birthday next week with a limited-time event

Adds new challenges and birthday-themed rewards.

Epic has announced that it will celebrating Fortnite's first birthday next week with a special limited-time event.

The in-game festivities run from July 24th until August 7th, and will unfold across both Battle Royale and Save the World modes. Some of the additions will be entirely cosmetic - the Battle Bus is getting a birthday makeover, for instance, while Save the World's sploder husks will be carrying a "tasty surprise" - but there are new challenges and quests, with corresponding birthday-themed prizes too.

Fortnite's special birthday challenges.

In Battle Royale, there are special birthday cosmetic items to unlock - a celebratory spray, emoticon, cake-shaped back bling, and 5,000 XP - by completing three challenges. You'll need to deal 1,000 damage to opponents for the emoticon, dance at birthday cake locations for the spray, play 14 matches for the XP, and complete all three challenges for the back bling.

Save the World mode, meanwhile, gets a new birthday quest, which awards the Birthday Brigade Ramirez Hero. It's also possible to earn tickets to spend on Birthday Llamas, which, says Epic, can contain Heroes and weapons from every event this year. Full details of Fortnite's birthday celebrations can be found on the developer's website.
