AMD names successor to Athlon

Say hello to... Barton

The Register is reporting that AMD is working on a successor to Athlon called Barton. Why Barton? The judge who originally allowed them to work on x86 architecture was one Judge J. Barton Phelps, and helped give value to the name Chimpzilla, which for long since AMD have been known by. Barton is set to be produced at AMD's Dresden facility, but we don't know much about its capabilities or details, except that it will ship in the second half of next year. El Reg is betting the Codename division at AMD will make use of Phelps, next.
