Watch: Johnny cooks the mega beef bowl from Persona 4

High steaks.

It's officially Spring, which is my most hated season - Spring doesn't know whether to be hot, cold, wet or dry, so it's perpetually windy while it makes up its mind. Today was one of the wet and windy days, which frankly left me feeling in need of some comfort food.

Enter the rainy day special mega beef bowl, a dish served in Chinese restaurant Aiya on rainy days in Persona 4. Likened to a 'portal to the meat dimension', it's effectively a heaping mound of steak atop a portion of rice - perfect for dreary days like this. You can see how my attempt at recreating the mega beef bowl went in the video below and, if you fancy trying it for yourself, can find the recipe below that.

Rainy day special mega beef bowl

Ingredients

A 'tidal wave' of beef steak, suitable for frying

3 tablespoons soy sauce

3 tablespoons honey

3 tablespoons oyster sauce

2 tablespoons Chinese cooking wine (or beef stock)

2 tablespoons water

1 teaspoon crushed black pepper

Method

Combine all ingredients but the steak in a bowl and mix well to form a sauce.

Cut the steak into thin strips.

Heat some vegetable oil in a wok over a high heat and then stir fry the beef for around one minute. Place the beef on a plate to one side.

Pour the sauce into the wok and simmer down over a medium heat until desired thickness is acquired.

Add the beef back into the wok, stir through for a minute and then serve immediately over rice.
