THQ president gives $1000 to the Humble THQ Bundle. Total payments near $2m

THQ stock up 38%.

THQ president Jason Rubin has given $1000 of his own money to the Humble THQ Bundle.

That is, $1050. Turtle Rock Studios, the developer making an unannounced shooter for the embattled publisher, paid $1024.

The THQ Humble Bundle, which launched yesterday, allows players to name their price for a collection that includes: Metro 2033, Darksiders, Red Faction: Armageddon, Company of Heroes and its two expansions, Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor. If you pay more than the average you get Saints Row: The Third as well.

The astonishing deal set tongues wagging last night and saw THQ's stock price rise almost 38 per cent.

At the time of publication there were 343,216 purchases. Total payments were $1.965 million. The average purchase was $5.73.

Other contributors include @WrapBootstrap ($1000), an anonymous buyer ($600), YesTheTruthHurts.com ($300) and GameDev.net ($251).

THQ recently staved off a default on its credit facility after it negotiated a deal with bank Wells Fargo. The deals runs to January 2013. Will the publisher find a white knight before then? It's in negotiations with a mystery financier as we speak.
