Darksiders and Red Faction sold to Nordic Games

Gearbox paid $1.35 million for Homeworld, 505 acquired Drawn to Life.

The second THQ auction has concluded with surprising results. We found out earlier today that Gearbox acquired the rights to Homeworld, but that's not the only jaw-dropping revelation. Vigil's beloved armageddon themed action/adventure series Darksiders was sold to Nordic Games, publisher of Alan Wake on PC, The Book of Unwritten Tales, and the later Painkiller titles.

Back to the Future! Ubisoft sale!

Telltale's episodic adaptation of Back to the Future concludes this week with the release of Part 5, free for series owners.

Overall it's a quiet week for the PlayStation Store, with a sale on Ubisoft games the only real sniff of a bargain on offer. Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed become slightly cheaper, although PlayStation Plus members get bigger savings and bonus content.

PlayStation 3 owners get a demo of Rugby World Cup 2011 (released yesterday on Xbox 360).

Red Faction: Armageddon sales disappoint

Red Faction: Armageddon sales disappoint

THQ points finger for poor financial results.

Sales of action sequel Red Faction: Armageddon didn't match THQ's expectations, the publisher has admitted.

Although it wouldn't offer any firm numbers, its earnings report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2012 noted that the game's performance was partly to blame for a dismal few months for the publisher.

THQ recorded a net loss of $38.4 million for the three months leading up to 30th June, compared to a loss of $30.4 million over the same period last year.

Red Faction: Armageddon for 58?

Yesterday's addition of the Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception multiplayer beta still headlines what the PlayStation Store offers today.

It's this year's big PS3 exclusive. And it poses the mouth watering question of can Naughty Dog now bring multiplayer to the same sky-high standard as single-player?

Among the games available to buy today are Sega Rally Online Arcade for 6.30, and Red Faction: Armageddon for 58. Wait, what?!

Red Faction sales: 70% Xbox, 26% PS3.

Duke Nukem Forever has topped the UK all-formats chart and sold a meaty majority on Xbox 360.

Xbox 360 dominated a fat 56 per cent of the sales pie; PS3 claimed only 30 per cent.

PC took 14 per cent, but remember that digitally distributed copies (i.e. those bought on Steam, Get Games and elsewhere), aren't counted.

Red Faction: Armageddon

Red Faction: Armageddon

Going underground.

It's been ten years since developer Volition first debuted its environment-trashing GeoMod technology in the original Red Faction. Over that period the series has fidgeted uncomfortably from first-person shooter to openworld adventure and now, with Armageddon, to third-person shooter.

All the above have featured the ability to blow bloomin' big holes in the scenery. But even in 2011, GeoMod still feels like a great idea in search of a game.

For this latest do-over, the action picks up 50 years after the events of 2009's Red Faction: Guerilla. We're introduced to Darius Mason, Red Faction soldier and grandson of Alec Mason, the hero of Guerilla and apparently just one in a long line of men whose surname has led them to save the Martian colonies with a sledgehammer.

Red Faction: Armageddon delayed

Volition's sequel pushed back a week.

Forthcoming action sequel Red Faction: Armageddon will now be released on 10th June, publisher THQ has announced, one week later than originally planned.

Red Faction: Armageddon demo announced

Red Faction: Armageddon demo announced

Taster hits PS3, Xbox 360 next week.

A demo for Volition's forthcoming Red Faction: Armageddon arrives on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live on 3rd May, publisher THQ has announced.

Apparently you'll be stepping into the shoes of hero Darius Mason and fighting your way through some alien-infested Martian sewers.

The revamped Nano Forge weapon will be at your disposal, letting you rebuild scenery that you've previously reduced to rubble, as well as the Magnet Gun, which allows you to lob entire buildings at your hapless foes.

You already know about the bizarre shift Red Faction Armageddon has made from Guerilla's worthy socialist plot to an "alien invasion". Basically, folks (that's you) seemed to think imposing the story of Das Kapital on a "blowing-stuff-up" shooter held the same socialist fascination as monkey-suited Ed Miliband explaining how he's against cuts whilst in favour of cuts whilst making cross-eyed faces like he's crapping himself, and oh God that BORING voice...

Volition: PC still worth investing in

"Let's make a game worth stealing."

Saints Row: The Third and Red Faction: Armageddon developer Volition is convinced making PC versions of its multiplatform games is still worth the time and money required despite the threat of piracy.

Red Faction spin-off, movie "justified"

"Big enough fanbase" for transmedia.

There is a Red Faction: Armageddon comic book, a spin-off downloadable arcade game and even a feature length TV movie - enough to spark Red Faction fatigue - but for creator Volition it's all justified.

Red Faction: Battlegrounds release date

Red Faction: Battlegrounds release date

XBLA and PSN game "a quick little snack".

Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network game Red Faction: Battlegrounds will launch during the first week of April, THQ has confirmed to Eurogamer.

That means the top-down twin-stick Destruction Derby style Red Faction spin-off will likely launch on 5th April on XBLA and 6th April on PSN for European gamers.

Battlegrounds, revealed in August last year, offers four-player vehicular co-op with a focus on quick-fire destruction.

My sickle friend.

"They don't call it the red planet for nothing," Darius Mason growls. Indeed not, Darius according to our extensive research on Wikipedia, they are in fact referring to the prevalence of iron oxide on the planet's surface.

Volition welcomes Dead Space parallel

"Oh yeah, definitely, that's a big one."

Red Faction: Armageddon producer Jim Boone has told Eurogamer that Dead Space definitely numbers among the sci-fi shooter's influences and that once the team settled on a storyline involving dormant aliens the comparison was perhaps inevitable.

THQ: Kinect/Move games are cheap

Don't expect motion-control blockbusters.

Games for PlayStation Move and Microsoft's Kinect are for a mass market, and therefore much cheaper and quicker to develop than core titles, according to THQ.

You've made an enormously popular action game built around huge open environments that you can rip to pieces with vehicles and explosives. In a genre where escalation is vital to keeping people's attention, where next if you want to deliver your own brand of bigger, better and more badass?

THQ may scrap annual UFC policy

After disappointing sales of 2010 game.

THQ may axe its policy of releasing a UFC game every year after the last game in the mixed martial arts simulation series sold fewer copies than expected.

THQ has revealed that Red Faction: Armageddon is the name of the sequel to last year's Guerrilla and that it's due out in March 2011 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
