The Binding of Isaac dev announces The Legend of Bum-bo

UPDATE: Mew-Genics is "not gunna happen" in the next few years.

UPDATE 24/02/2016 12.12am Edmund McMillen has confirmed to Eurogamer that Mew-Genics has been put on hold indefinitely. Here's his status update on the project in his own words:

"I'm unsure of its future but there is a chance we will attempt to revamp it in a few years with a new design of mine that will push it in a new direction that will hopefully make it more exciting for both of us to work on."

"But sadly till then it's not gunna happen."

ORIGINAL STORY 22/02/2016 5.55pm The Binding of Isaac developers Edmund McMillen and James Id have announced a new game entitled The Legend of Bum-bo.

The logo certainly recalls The Binding of Isaac, suggesting some sort of tie-in.

McMillen called the upcoming project a "turn based puzzle RPG type thingy thats randomly generated" in its announcement on The Binding of Isaac's blog.

He noted that he'd be handling the game's design, writing, 2D art and character design, while Id would be in charge of the programming, 3D art and other miscellaneous tasks.

The Binding of Isaac composers Matthias Bossi and Jon Evans (i.e. the musical duo Ridiculon) will be handling the audio.

McMillen teased that The Legend of Bum-bo may have some sort of tie-in to The Binding of Isaac. He ended his announcement with the following passage:

"But why is this on the Isaac Blog!? What does this have to do with Isaac!? When Isaac!? Isaac? Isaac! Why!?"

"Well I'm sure those questions will be answered in the coming months once we tease a bit more."

Last we checked, McMillen was collaborating with his Super Meat Boy co-creator Tommy Refenes on the "cat lady simulator" Mew-Genics. It's been a over two years since that project was teased, so its fate is unclear at the moment. We've requested info as to its status and will update should we learn more. [Editor's note: it looks like Mew-Genics hasn't been in development for the past two years, McMillen tweeted.]
