Street Fighter 5 finally gets a meaningful rage quit penalty

I will meditate and then destroy you.

Half a year later, Street Fighter 5 will finally get a proper rage quitting penalty.

The fighting game hasn't had a meaningful system for punishing those who quit matches early since it came out in February 2016.

Back in April, Capcom added a system to identify players who had high disconnect rates during matches and lock them out of matchmaking for a period of time. But Capcom didn't say what kind of disconnect rate would get you noticed by the system, and most agree it's pretty lenient.

Tomorrow, 16th August, Capcom will update the game to add a rage quitting penalty that will hopefully go some way to deterring players from pulling the plug.

Players who are penalised for quitting early will lose League Points and be locked out of online matching for a set time, Capcom said.

Capcom also mentioned stricter guidelines for players who disconnect before the match is over, so hopefully that means more people will be found guilty of rage quitting than before.

Meanwhile, another update is planned for September. This includes double Fight Money (the in-game currency) through Ranked Match mode events. The first of these takes place on the weekend of 2nd-4th September.

Plus! The September update adds a versus CPU option, which is welcome. Daily Targets (daily challenges with Fight Money rewards) are also in the works.

Then there are free colours for season pass holders (colours 3-10 for default and battle costumes of the six DLC characters). I've reported on why there are all sorts of problems with the way you get colours in Street Fighter 5.

And this is a good one: premium costumes will now include colours 3-10.

Colour bundles will be available to buy with Fight Money or real money for all 22 characters' default and story costumes.
