Sony delays PlayStation Rewards scheme
April launch cancelled, not rescheduled.
Sony has cancelled the planned April launch of its PlayStation Rewards scheme, which has been in beta for the past few months.
According to Joystiq, a message sent out to beta participants today read, "Based on what we learned, we have decided the program is not ready to roll out to the public in April as originally planned. But rest assured, we will continue to thank loyal and devoted customers like you with innovative offerings."
When asked for an explanation and a new launch window, a Sony spokesperson responded, "After careful consideration and evaluation following the PlayStation Rewards beta, we have decided not to roll out the program to the public at this time.
"We remain committed to providing the best overall consumer experience for our users, and we will be refocusing our efforts in the near future to further developing PlayStation Plus and our other network services."
The scheme, which was first announced back in October, was to reward users for playing new games, buying content from PlayStation Network, downloading movies, filling in any PlayStation surveys and carrying out various 'Quests'.
"PlayStation's most important asset is its loyal fans and PlayStation Rewards gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation for their amazing passion and desire to continually evolve the gaming world," explained PlayStation Network chief Susan Panico at the time.
