A movie adaptation of arcade classic Rampage is currently in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Apparently New Line Cinema has tasked producer John Rickard, whose credits include Final Destination, Horrible Bosses and the recent Nightmare on Elm Street remake, with bringing the franchise to the big screen.

The studio hasn't announced any story or casting information, nor a planned release date.

The Midway Games coin-op, which sees you playing as an enormous monster hell-bent on reducing a city to rubble, debuted in arcades back in 1986 before being ported to every console under the sun.

The most recent entry in the franchise was dismal PS2/Xbox/Wii effort Rampage: Total Destruction in 2006.
