Notch shows off first footage of 0x10^C
Pronounced "10 to the C."
Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson has released the first footage of his highly anticipated follow-up 0x10^C.
The game will be a space sim of sorts that takes place in the year 281 474 976 712 644 AD after your character was accidentally put into cryosleep for 0x0001 0000 0000 0000 years instead of the requested 0x0000 0000 0000 0001 years. Whoops!
Now the "universe [is] on the brink of extinction, with all remote galaxies forever lost to red shift, star formation long since ended, and massive black holes dominating the galaxy," according to the official site.
The new video shows off the dynamic lighting as a player illuminates an eerie grey chamber with a blaster. It's important to note that the final game won't look lke this. Notch tweeted, "While I've been working on the engine, @eldrone [artist, Jonatan Pöljö] has been working on a test scene for the art style. Looking forward to merging the two!"
I saw a little more behind the scenes footage of 0x10^C in the upcoming Minecraft documentary over the weekend wherein Notch revealed the game's proper pronunciation - 10 to the C - and showed off some of its building mechanics.
Taking place in another empty room, Notch placed a gold cube on the ground and stretched it vertically into a pillar. He then pulled along one side of the pillar to extend it into a wall, then pulled along the surface of the wall to form a shape that resembled a slice of pie.
Granted this was all very early work that could well change before the ambitious project is released.
