New Bungie IP deal "close"

Mystery game still unsigned.

Bungie has revealed that the secret, non-Halo game it's working on is still not signed to a publisher - but suggested a deal is "close".

Asked whether a publishing partner had been secured for the new game, Bungie's Lars Bakken told Eurogamer: "I think internally we'll know sometime soon. I don't handle these things, but I'd imagine we're going to know way before we make the public announcement of who's handling that! But sure, I think those talks are, I guess, close."

Nothing is known of the project, which the studio has been working on for some time, although we wouldn't be amazed if it involved men running around with large guns shooting things.

After splitting from Microsoft and going indie in late 2007, the studio has been free to work with other publishers and on other platforms, but has thus far been busying itself with Halo 3, the imminent Halo: ODST and, announced at E3, Halo: Reach.

As luck would have it, we've got a brand new hands-on preview with ODSTfor you today, and the full interview with Bungie and Microsoft can be seen over on Eurogamer TV.

Halo 3: ODST hits Xbox 360 on 22nd September.
